Junior Surf at Palmerston North Surf Lifesaving Club is where Tamariki aged 7-13years build water confidence, learn essential beach safety skills, and develop a lifelong love of the ocean - all in a supportive, whānau-friendly environment. Our sessions are active, encouraging, and designed to help children feel confident in, on, and around the water, laying the foundations for a future in Surf Life Saving.
Our Purpose
Our goal is simple: to create water-safe people/tangata moana, enrich the lives of children and their whānau, and inspire the next generation of Surf Lifesaving Guards.
Our Junior Surf combines pool-based learning with a summer beach programme at Himatangi Beach. This gives children the skills, confidence, and knowledge they need to safely enjoy New Zealand's coastal environment.
Why Junior Surf?
Junior Surf helps children to:
- Build confidence and competence in and around the water
- Learn surf and beach safety in real-life conditions
- Develop movement skills, teamwork, and friendships
- Understand and respect the coastal environment
- Be introduced to surf lifesaving skills and sport in an age-appropriate way
All sessions are hands-on, supportive, and focused on learning through fun.
When & Where
Sunday Pool Sessions
These sessions focus on water confidence, basic surf skills, and fitness in a fun, supportive environment.
When: Sunday
Time: 9:00 – 10:00am
Location: Lido Aquatic Centre (Indoor 25-metre pool)
Parent involvement: Parents are welcome and encouraged to join their child in the water, especially while confidence is developing.
